December expense review

It seems like every year around this time there is just so much going on that we are unable to document everything on the blog. This is a bit late, but better late than never as was the case last year when we didn’t even do a December review.

Below are our itemized expense categories as they compare with the previous month and some quick thoughts.

  • Much like the previous few months, our expense total is largely inflated because we’ve been aggressively paying down the second mortgage debt. For the month of December we were able to pay an additional $5,500 on top of our normal mortgage payment. We also were able to make an extra mortgage payment last month.

  • Property taxes were also due last month and were paid using our cash reserve. One of our goals this year is to make the necessary contributions (around $300 per month) to our cash reserve to bring us back up to $13,000 by year end.

  • To conclude, just as with November, we are somewhat satisfied with our expenses again this month, but there is always room for improvement.
